This is a question that I’m asked time and time again. Once people find out that I’m in the travel business they always seem to want to know about my travels and which is my favorite place in the world.
Of course, I always try to think of something clever as well as interesting, without boring my audience of one to death. I don’t want to come across as a “know it all” even if I am the self proclaimed expert. In a lot of cases, this question could just be an ice breaker in large groups of people that are thrown together and expected to find new friends and business connections. Since I love to talk, I just forge ahead whether my captive new prospect really wants to hear the answer or not.
I was recently at one of these “business events” and met a young woman who asked me THE QUESTION. After a few minutes of trying to impress her with my vast travel experiences, I asked her what her favorite place in the world was.
She started off slowly telling me that she was from North Carolina and how much see misses her home since moving to Colorado. She continued to describe the beauty of her home state in a way that was truly passionate. Having only flown through Charlotte North Carolina, I have a little knowledge of the state, so I was very intrigued. She talked of crystal clear water of every shade of turquoise, rolling sand dunes that glisten in the afternoon sun and my personal favorite, seafood to die for.
The conversion was only about 10 minutes, but I have now fallen in love with North Carolina and have put it on my “must visit” list. I was sworn to secrecy not to let the world know about my new friends favorite area of North Carolina, but I can tell you it’s not the Outer Banks.
Whether it’s close to home or far away, I would love to hear about your favorite place in the world.
